BugE FAQ's

Why three wheels?
a three wheeled vehicle is considered a motorcycle which keeps it simple, light and efficient.
How do you get in it?
The fairing tilts forward so you can get in the side.
Can I carry stuff?
Sure, there is a trunk in front and you can hang a back pack on the seat.
Why two wheels in front?
For better stability and braking.
Can it tip over?
Yes it can. Everything has its limits. But if you drive it sensibly it won't. You will “feel” tippy well before the BugE actually is tippy. The battery pack helps lower the center of gravity improving stability.
Is it safe?
A BugE offers more visability, stability and protection than a bicycle, or motor scooter. But there are large, dangerous vehicles and inattentive drivers out there, they pose a threat to everyone.
Why is it open on in the back?
To keep it Simple and light. The open sides allow for air circulation, access to drive up windows, and let you hear what's happening.
How much does it weight?
About 350 pounds.
How Far will it Go?
Obviously that depends on many factors, but generally you could expect (with a full charge and level terrain, no stop and go)
20 miles @ 40 mph, 30 miles @ 30 mph, 40 miles @ 20 mph.
How Fast will it go?
The BugE is “quick” not “fast”. (See above). We don't recommend you drive anywhere where the traffic flow is faster than you are.
Why Electric power?
It's cheap, clean and its everywhere you go. You are driving within the grid, any outlet is a power source and the BugE uses little energy.
How much energy does it use?
About a penny per mile for electricity.
How long to charge the batteries?
With two Soneil on board chargers, a dead battery pack takes about 8 hours to regain full charge. However since you can often plug in anywhere you go, You can top off the charge and have plenty of power available.
Can it carry two people?
You could install a motorcycle type touring seat and carry an extra person once in a while, it should be only for short distances, like with a scooter. Weight in the back reduces stability too.
How much does it cost?
A completed BugE will cost about the price of a Vespa scooter
Can I sell them?
Sure! Buy a kit and then sell assembled BugE's
You should be able to make about $500 for 20-40 hours labor.
How hard is it to build?
It's much like a big model car. No welding is required and the Assembly Manual covers the steps and sources for parts you need.
If you like to make things, you should like this.
Is it street legal?
In most places, the BugE is licensed and registered as a motorcycle. So if you have the motorcycle lighting package, a motorcycle endorsement and insurance, you should be good to go.
Can I drive it at night?
Yes if you have the legal lights. (head and taillight, brake lights and turn signals.)
Is there a heater?
No heater. But the BugE will keep deflect the wind chill and rain. Use electrically heated motorcycle gear if needed.
Wipers?
No wipers either. We suggest you use RainEx and Antifog. If it is raining too hard, stop and have a coffee until it lets up. Just like on a motorcycle or bicycle.
Radio or I-pod?
Sure, you can add anything you want. It's up to you to Rock and Roll!
